With properly traded ETF’s what is the ballpark figure of a low end and a high end of what you can make from these trades? I like to study options and know that the ballpark figure of what you can make is zero to on rare occasion up to 1000%…though most of the time it is 30% if you have a nice little pop in the stock. Does anyone have a realistic ballpark of what to expect from ETF trades?

I am looking into models primarily for trading ETF’s for the short term gain, and long term portfolio development. I want to develop a balanced portfolio for the long-term. I need to build up cash to help me get there. Any suggestions on what free market timing software programs there might be out there worth using?
I am interested in entering the realm of ETF’s. I have noticed a few in particular, that seem to catch my eye. In general my investment style is able to take moderate to high amounts of risk in order to achieve higher return’s. I have invested in indivdual stocks, mutual funds and other similar items; however am new to the field of ETF trading. Could someone suggest a good starting point, a few good ETF’s, and those to stay away from? Any advice, tips, hints, etc would be much apprieciated. A little more info about myself incase it will help. I’m 20, from the US, am not opposed to investing in a foriegn ETF, especially since they seem to give better returns. I’m looking something that will provide a good rate of return, with "above normal" risk, however I’m not looking something so volital as to lose sleep at night. Thank you again!
Additionally, I forgot to ask. As with mutual funds, do ETF’s have minimum "initial" investment amounts?
I’m intresting in purchasing some ETF shares using Scottrade.com. My question is whether there are any additional fees or commission that are applied to trading ETF’s? Since they trade like stock, are they charged the same dollar trading fee? I appreciate the help,.
