There is almost no phrase that is better know in the world of trading than day trader, and for good reason, if you become very good at it you can certainly earn a good living from doing it. Notice I did not say make a fortune or make a lot of money, day trading is more like having a job, but with a lot of benefits.

I used the term make a living because day trading is by nature an activity that you need to do everyday that you want to make money, as opposed to say a position trader.

Given that you may activily trade for 200 days a year, if you can make an average daily profit of $500 then you are making the much sought after 6 figure income, and I believe that figure is very achievable if the correct preparation and training is taken before hand, and during.

So what does it take to become a successful day trader?, after studying a lot of material I believe you will need:

  • A proven trading strategy (technical indicators, entry and exit plans)
  • A solid money management system
  • Trading discipline
  • Startup trading capital, probabily at least $5000
  • A good computer and high speed internet connection
  • Good charting software
  • A quiet place to trading without disturbance

The main characteristic about a day trader is that they make sure they are 100% in cash at the end of each trading day, this has a number of advantages over keeping the trade overnight., but there are also a number of drawbacks.

It can be seen even in this very limited discussion about day trading there there is a lot to consider. In addition to the list of required items above there is one other critical factor that could be the make or break for your trading career, it is very important to find a trading mentor, teacher or advisor, such as Dr Barry Burns, that can guide you down the correct path.
