In fact, I was thinking about working on a research paper covering this topic. I did my graduate work in real estate finance and I currently teach finance. I really think technical analysis can be used. I believe this is a brand new idea and I don't think people researched it before. Because one thing we learned in school is: Location, location, location. I think you are on to something but I really can't tell you what. In any case, I wish good luck! I dont think technical analysis as applied to stocks would work well in real property investments, because the asset doesn't trade often, providing less information than a stock and also because the markets are so local. Benchmarks might be hard to find. However, I do think you could use your knowledge very well towards REITS.
